Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, issued the following statement regarding the collective bargaining negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers:
“Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have so far been unable to reach an agreement and today, the union gave notice of their intention to strike starting Monday, October 22, 2018 at 00:01 a.m. EDT. I encourage both parties to continue to negotiate to reach a fair and balanced deal.
This government believes in the collective bargaining process. Mediators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service have been working closely with the parties to help them reach agreements and will remain available to help.
I will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
